Letter from Galway

Please see below an extract from a letter received from the host club in Galway from last weekend.

The 24 young gentlemen that travelled were a credit to their families, their clubs and the team of mentors who escorted them on their trip. All of our hosts were very impressed by the manners, politeness and respect shown by the lads and I would like if you could relay our sentiments to the lads themselves and their families. Far too often the youth of today receive negative press and it was a pleasure to deal with such a great group of lads.

News from the Schools

The schools involved with the Thomas McCurtains school coaching programme have been excellent in the way of providing the opportunities for youngsters to learn and play Gaelic football. The achievements so far have been brilliant, you only have to look at the numbers at McCurtains training every Wednesday in Barley Lane and every Thursday in Chelmsford to realise the effect that the club is having in the community.

Primary School Hurling Blitz

The first hurling school blitz of 2011 took place on Wednesday 25th May at St Peter & Pauls Catholic Primary School in Ilford. The visiting school was St Marys Catholic Primary school from Hornchurch, bringing with them five teams of year 5 and 6 students. Over the last term both schools have been practicing their hurling skills in their PE lessons every Thursday with myself and Ronan McCarthy in preparation for this day of competition. With the sun shining the children were eager to get stuck in and kick off the blitz.
