The Wait is Over !!!!!

On Yer Bike !!!!

On Sunday 20th June, 43 cyclists took to the road for the London to Brighton bike ride, to raise funds for our club.

The team, which included many members of McCurtians, Wanstead RUFC and staff from Woodlands PH, met outside O'Gradys at 5am and were soon opn the way to Clapham Common for a 6.30am Start.

Once at Clapham, we all made our way to the 6.30 gate to start our adventure.

What a Great Start

THOMAS MCCURTAINS U12 HURLING BLITZ

This was the first outing of the U12 team. The commitment and determination of the TMC team was evident from the start and they dominated the game throughout. It should be said that the score line should have been higher but for the skill of the KG keepers who stopped several goals on the line.

There were displays of hurling skills by all the TMC players both playing ground hurling and in several cases raising the ball and playing in the air. There was also great teamwork from a team who have had very little training together and in some cases played their first hurling this year not having trained through the winter.

Sunday 18/04/10 Greenford

Sunday afternoon saw (a neatly full strength) McCurtains get off to a flying start in the opening round of the league against a very able St.Clarets side in Greenford on Sunday afternoon.

Played in ideal conditions McCurtains raced into a 3 pint lead in the first 15 minutes with some neat interchange of play between the midfield and the full forward line, with the “Castledearg Bomber” proving a handful at the edge of the square.

In the opening exchanges both Keegan and Ryan dominated round the middle of the field with the Pistol and the lively Don McDonald showing well on the wings enabling McCurtains to shade Clarets in the opening proceedings. A strong performance from the defence, notably Collins and the “Looouutthh” duo proved a solid foundation on which McCurtain build upon leading 7-4 at the interval. The introduction of Howlin mid way through the first half added to the attack as his ability to bring others into the game proved decisive with some intelligent distribution for the ball.

The second half saw Clarets come out the stronger and they clawed their way back to level matters after 20 minutes. During this period McCurtain lost their way temporarily with some way word forward shooting. However a late rally and a sublime save from Martin “the cat” Keys proved enough to secure the two points on the day. All in all McCurtains proved worthy winners in what was effectively only their third outing of the season. Bearing in mind this was the opening league encounter there is certainly room for improvement as more difficult challenges lie ahead with some big names yet to be played. Training resumes this coming Tuesday 19.30 at Goodmays.

Well done to all involved, as everyone gave 100% on the day. A special mention goes out to both Cahir McHugh and Peter Haughey, McHugh managed to stay on the field of play for the duration of the game (all be it behind the line!!) and Pistol for providing the late night entertainment in O’Gradys after!!

Chelmsford Chat

McCurtainsThe December freeze saw a winding down of an enjoyable Gaelic football term for bhoys, girls and ladies alike. We were sad to see the back of Martin Mac, an excellent coach who moved on to embrace other challenges in the sporting arena. We would like to thank him for his dedication and guidance in the short time he was with us and wish him all the best in the future.

In the same breath we would like to welcome John keyes who will not only step into his coaching shoes but also engage with the sports development bodies in Chelmsford with a view to the expansion of Gaelic sports.
